Here are some pathways the Tutorium can help you join a UIC degree program:

Step 1 - Apply to a UIC Undergraduate Degree Program First
Apply directly to a UIC undergraduate program. If you need to improve your English before starting your degree, you may be referred to the Tutorium.

Step 2 - Enroll in the UIC Accelerator Program
If you do not meet the full admission criteria, UIC Undergraduate Admissions may refer you to the UIC Accelerator Program for additional academic and language support.

Step 3 - Strengthen Your Skills in the Accelerator Program
Participate in the UIC Accelerator Program to improve your academic English, adjust to university life, and build the skills needed for success in your undergraduate studies.

Step 4 - Begin Your Degree Program
After completing the Accelerator Program and meeting all requirements, continue as a fully enrolled undergraduate student at UIC.

Step 2 - Enroll in a UIC Tutorium Program
The Tutorium partners with graduate programs to provide flexible pathways for admitting highly qualified international students. There are two options to help programs enroll applicants whose first language is not English.

Option 1: Grad+Professional Skills
✔ Full Admission – Requires enrollment in Grad + Professional Skills courses. Our Advanced Professional Skills series assists non-native English speakers and/or international students build their communication skills to be successful in U.S. Academia and a global workforce.

Option 2: Intensive English Pre-Grad
✔ Deferred Admission – Requires completion of Intensive English Pre-Grad before starting your degree. Prospective students enroll in our Intensive English Program (IEP) and transition into a graduate program after successfully completing their English studies.
Studying Students
Step 1 - Apply to UIC Tutorium IEP First
Start by enrolling in our Intensive English Program (IEP) to improve your English. Once you meet the language requirements, you can apply to UIC.
UIC CAMPUS
Step 2 - Apply to a UIC Undergraduate or Graduate Degree Program
While enrolled in the UIC Tutorium IEP program, you can apply to an undergraduate or graduate degree program at the University of Illinois Chicago. If needed, a confirmation letter of your enrollment can be provided.

Step 3 - Meet English Proficiency Requirements
Focus on completing your IEP coursework and reaching the required level of English proficiency. Successful completion will allow you to meet UIC’s language requirements without submitting a standardized test score.

Step 4 - Begin Your Degree Program
Once admitted and language requirements are met, you can transition directly into your UIC undergraduate program and begin your academic journey in Chicago.

Use the Tutorium English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) instead of the TOEFL or IELTS tests.
