Getting Help with Your Homework

If you’re not sure where the homework is, or when it’s due:

  • Look at your class Blackboard site and in your class syllabus – the information is probably there. If you have trouble finding the information, ask a friend.
  • If your friend doesn’t know, ask your teacher. Ask in class right away, or ask by email.
    • In your email, do NOT just write “Hi teacher, what is our homework?” Instead, let your teacher know where you looked on the class Blackboard site and in the class syllabus.

If you’re not sure how to start or what to do exactly:

  • Read your teacher’s instructions carefully.
  • Don’t guess or think you remember from class. You will probably be wrong or miss some important part of the assignment.

If you’re not sure that you’re doing it right:

  • Try your best and complete your assignment on time. It is better to turn in an assignment that might be wrong than to turn in no assignment at all. Even incorrect homework is still a learning opportunity.
  • And remember, don’t go online looking for someone’s help. You learn nothing when you do that.

If you need help because you’re lost:

  • Tell your teacher but prepare specific questions.
  • For example, don’t say: “I don’t know how to do my HW.” Instead, say: “Where can I find an example of an introduction paragraph?”

Remember, homework is an important way to practice what you learned in class, and practice is the only way to improve your skills!
