About

When I was in high school, I had to research two careers that I was interested in. My first choice was a linguist, so it's no surprise that I have chosen teaching English as my profession. My second choice was a detective, which actually makes sense when you think about what language teachers typically do: look for clues about how language works and help students find the key to successful learning.

For about 20 years, I've been teaching secondary and higher education in South Dakota, California, and Minnesota, but I feel that Chicago is the best fit for me. I think it's related to the diverse and authentic communities that this city has in abundance.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy singing, traveling, and games/word & number puzzles of all kinds. My husband and I have three children who are now young adults, and I love sharing stories of my students with them as well as telling my students about my family and their experiences with academic challenges and goals.
