Types of College Admissions Heading link
There are least seven different types of college admissions. It’s important to understand the differences when you start your college or university applications.
- Regular Admission: There is a deadline for applications and all of the applications are reviewed after that deadline. All applications that are on time have equal chances of being accepted depending on their qualifications.
- Rolling Admission: Applications are reviewed when they are received and acceptance letters are sent soon after. Late applications will have less chance of being accepted.
- Open Admission: Almost all applications that meet the requirements are accepted. More common for community colleges.
- Early Decision: Application deadlines are very early; applicant must go to that school if accepted. Be sure to know all the details of this agreement!
- Early Action: Apply early, find out if you are accepted, and then choose from all your early action possibilities. Be sure to know all the details of this agreement!
- Early Evaluation: This is NOT an acceptance. Applications will be reviewed early and students will be told if they are likely to be accepted or not.
- Deferred Admission: Get accepted but then put it off for a year. Be sure to know all the details of this agreement!
