Enjoying Chicago Beaches

Chicago Beach

Here's a great way to enjoy summer and get to know your city at the same time.

Chicago has 24 beaches, and they are all free to attend. The beach parks are open 6 a.m. - 11 p.m., but swimming is only allowed 11a.m. - 7 p.m., when lifeguards are present. Here are a few of our favorite Chicago beaches.

57th Street Beach

You can get to the 57th Street Beach through the pedestrian underpass near the Museum of Science and Industry.  You can go paddle boarding and canoeing at the north end of the beach.

Montrose Beach

Montrose beach visitors can play volleyball, sit under an umbrella or take a dip in the lake. There’s also a bird sanctuary at the south end of the beach.

North Avenue Beach

North Avenue Beach has a quirky beach house that looks like an ocean liner. Visitors can play volleyball, grab a snack or rent a bike. North Avenue is the busiest beach in the city, so get there as early as you can to find a spot in the sand!

Ohio Street Beach

Ohio Street Beach has calm waters for swimmers and amazing views of downtown. You can get to the Ohio Street beach from the Lakefront Trail.
