Day of Service – Celebrating MLK Day

Each year on the third Monday in January we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the most well-known African American Civil Rights leaders of his time. His work as an activist not only helped to change laws supporting segregation, but he also was a voice for unifying America. Today, anyone who lives here in America can be treated with equality and respect no matter the color of their skin, race, or even culture.

To honor Dr. King’s legacy, each year UIC hosts a MLK day of service in collaboration with other communities in the Chicago area. This is a day full of helping and serving people in the community as a way to show love and spread hope.

Watch this short video of UIC students sharing about their experience serving others on MLK service day in 2021. Maybe one year, you can too can be a part of keeping Dr. King’s dream alive!
