Study Information
The research study, Effective Feedback in Intelligent Writing Assistants for English Language Learners, is conducted by researchers in the UIC Natural Language Processing Laboratory.

What is this research study about?
We are developing a computer-based writing assistant that provides error-specific feedback for learners of English as a Second Language (ESL), especially for native Spanish speakers.

Who is eligible?
We are looking for adults (18+) who fit all of the following criteria:

  • Native speaker of Spanish
  • Non-native speaker of English (learned English in a classroom setting or similar)
  • Feel comfortable speaking, reading, and writing in English
  • Have access to a computer that can run the Zoom video communication platform

What will I be asked to do?
If you participate, you will be asked to interact with our prototype system and complete some tasks involving English grammar over two recorded Zoom sessions.

The first session will take approximately 2.5 hours, and the second session two weeks later will take approximately 30 minutes.

You will be compensated $20 for completing the first session and $10 for completing the second session. The study is completely virtual.
