3 Pathways to a UIC Degree
The UIC Tutorium offers three pathways for our Intensive English Program that both Undergraduate and Graduate students can take to earn a UIC Degree. Our programs prepare students for academic success by developing the English skills needed to succeed in university coursework!
Three Pathways to earn a UIC Degree:
Undergraduate Admissions Pathway
Step 1 – Apply to a UIC as an Undergraduate student
Apply directly to a UIC undergraduate program. If you need to improve your English before starting your degree, you may be referred to the Tutorium.
Step 2 – Enroll in the UIC Accelerator Program
If you do not meet the full admission criteria, UIC Undergraduate Admissions may refer you to the UIC Accelerator Program for additional academic and language support.
Step 3 – Begin your Degree Program
After completing the Accelerator Program and meeting all Tutorium requirements, continue as a fully enrolled undergraduate student at UIC.
Graduate Admissions Pathway
Step 1 – Apply to a UIC as an Graduate student
Apply directly to a UIC Graduate program. If you need to improve your English before starting your degree, you may be referred to the Tutorium.
Step 2 – Enroll in one of our Grad Programs
After applying to a UIC graduate program, your department will review your application and English proficiency scores. Based on your results, the department will recommend one of two supportive options through the Tutorium: Grad+ Professional Skills or Intensive English Pre-Grad (IEP).
- Option 1: Full Admission – Requires enrollment in Grad + Professional Skills courses. Our Advanced Professional Skills series helps non-native English speakers and international students build their communication skills.
- Option 2: Deferred Admission – Requires completion of Intensive English Pre-Grad before starting your degree. Prospective students enroll in our Intensive English Program (IEP) and transition into a graduate program after successfully completing their English studies.
Step 3 – Begin your Degree Program
After completing the your selected grad program and meeting all Tutorium requirements, continue as a fully enrolled graduate student at UIC.
