Questions about our classes
How many students are in a class?
The average class size is 6 – 9 students. The maximum class size is 12.
How old do you have to be to attend a class?
Students must be at least 18 years old to join a class. You must be at least 19 to join our summer Chicago, Communication and Culture course.
Is it okay if I miss some of the class sessions?
Yes. If you have to miss more than one week of class, contact Beata Keller at email@example.com about making special arrangements.
Do students receive a grade or a certificate?
Students receive a certificate of completion at the end of a course if they complete at least 80% of the course work. Students who complete less than 80% receive a certificate of participation. Our courses do not offer credits or grades.
Who teaches the classes?
Our instructors are native speakers who have at least a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
When are your courses offered?
Most of our classes meet in the evenings and on Saturdays. We offer classes spring, summer and fall. Here’s our current calendar.
Questions about registration and payment
Do I have to take a placement exam or an entrance exam?
Do I need any special documents or visa to join a class?
No, you do not. Anyone can join our classes as long as you are 18 or older.
Do I have to be a UIC student to take these classes?
No, you do not. Our courses are open to everyone!
Do I have to come into your office to register for a course?
You can register and pay your tuition online.
I don’t want to pay my tuition online. How do I register?
Complete this registration form, and then call or visit our office Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm, to make your tuition payment. We are at 1333 S. Halsted, Suite 260. 312-996-8098.
Do you have any scholarships?
We do not offer scholarships. However, any students who sign up for more than one class receive a discount on every class after their first class.
Can I make a partial payment?
We can only reserve your seat in the class if you pay the full tuition amount before the first day of class. However, for some of our classes, it is possible to attend only part of the semester and pay a lower tuition rate. Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more about this.
